A Child With a Child

A Child With a Child

by Bob Burridge ©1991

This song is about the struggle of a teen girl who had a baby while single and was abandoned by her family. It’s based upon a true case of someone who was counseled and decided not to abort her baby. She found great hope in Christ and a new start on life with her precious little one and encouraging Christian friends.

1. Tender eyes filled with tears, stained with pain many years
frightened, rejected, and alone.
She was young and didn’t know what to do, where to go
just a child cast away on her own.

(chorus)
Fading love, fading dreams, fading hopes in faded jeans
fading mem’ries of family and friends.
Abandoned by her folks when she needed them the most,
Oh, the pain of a child with a child.

2. Sleeping eyes, tiny ears, sensing mother’s trembling fears,
drifting softly in dreams far away.
Held so close, oh so tight, mother thinking through the night,
all is gone, just leave my child, Lord I pray.

(repeat chorus)

3. In a frame on the wall, words that helped her through it all,
they’ve strengthened and carried her through.
Saying “Come unto me…” and promising rest,
from the One who said, “I’ll never leave you.”

(closing chorus)
Finding love, building dreams, finding hope in faded jeans
making mem’ries of family and friends,
This new life has come, a new family has begun
in the heart of this child with a child,
in the heart of this child with a child.
